John Lewis review

The name John Lewis is synonymous with 'quality' and is best known for being the largest department store group in the UK. With 27 department stores and over 175 Waitrose supermarkets under it's wing, it has successfully become one of the UK's top ten retail businesses.

It all began in 1864, when John Lewis opened his first shop in Oxford Street, London. In 1929, under the control of his son, John Spedan Lewis, the John Lewis Partnership Limited was formed, and since then has grown into the huge enterprise it is today. This massively popular chain of department stores offers a huge range of products, possibly more than any other British retailer.

With their very successful website launched in 2001, access to most of their wares is now available around the clock, seven days a week. Here you will find just about anything you need for your family and home. Shopping has never been easier!

Online shopping checklist:

  • Do John Lewis offer secure online ordering? YES Their site uses high-level SSL (secure socket layer) encryption technology when taking your personal details online. The secure server software encrypts all the information you input before it is sent over the internet.
  • Do John Lewis charge extra for home delivery? YES and NO Standard delivery is free if your order exceeds £100 in value. Under this amount the fee is £3.95 Next day or named day delivery is charged at £6.95 However, if you want to have items sent to separate addresses, a separate delivery charge will apply for each address.
  • How long does delivery take? Usually within 5 working days but some items can take longer, up to 14 days or more.
  • What are the main products John Lewis sell online? Just about anything you can think of. Their product lines include a wide range of gifts and flowers, menswear, womenswear, childrenswear, babywear, nursery bedding, nursery furniture, babycare products, pushchairs and safety items, soft furnishings, decorative accessories, lighting, rugs, storage, kitchenware, tableware, dining room furniture, beds and bedding, bedroom furniture, living room furniture, office furniture, audio and video products, domestic appliances, heating and cooling products, telephones, sewing machines, health & beauty products, digital photography equipment plus accessories, computers and software, computer accessories, games consoles, fitness equipment, holiday essentials, luggage, sports and leisurewear, toys and games, and phew! have I left anything out? Probably!.

Other details worth considering...

If you're contemplating buying a gift for someone, but you're not quite sure what to buy them, you might consider getting them a John Lewis gift voucher. You can buy them in multiples of £5 or £10 up to the value of £200 and they can be used either online or in any of their shops. You can even have them sent to any UK address together with a card and gift message for a small delivery fee.

Personal recommendation John Lewis is one of my favourite places to go shopping. When you walk into one of their stores it's like walking into Aladdins Cave. Difficult to beat on choice and quality. Thoroughly recommended!
